Privacy Policy
Kokochi is a gentle food, weight and mood diary. This page describes what we collect and why. We do not sell data, we do not run ads, and we do not use your information for tracking.

Who this covers
The Kokochi iOS app and the service at api.kokochi.app. Using the diary on the device without an account is possible; some features need Sign in with Apple.
What we collect
- Account (Sign in with Apple). An Apple user identifier, and — only if you share them on first sign-in — your name and email. Needed for sync, the free photo quota, and Kokochi Plus.
- Diary. Meals, weight, mood and notes you enter. After sign-in they sync to our servers so they can follow you to another device.
- Meal photos. Sent to our servers so we can recognise food. Apple’s privacy labels treat this as photos used for app functionality. Photos are not used for advertising.
- Health. If you allow it, Kokochi reads daily steps from Apple Health (read-only) to reflect activity. We do not write to Health.
- Purchases. If you subscribe to Kokochi Plus, we store subscription status linked to your account so photo recognition can stay unlocked. Apple processes payment. We do not receive your card number.
- Diagnostics. The app may send logs to our servers to fix failures. These can include technical details and, today, may include meal text or search queries you typed. They are not used for ads or profiling.
How we use it
Only to run Kokochi: log meals, match food to open nutrition databases, sync your diary, count the monthly photo allowance, and honour a Plus subscription. A language model (currently Google Gemini) may structure text and photos into ingredients; calories and macros come from our food database, not from the model inventing numbers.
What we do not do
- No advertising networks, no data brokers, no tracking pixels.
- No “selling” the diary. We do not use your food, weight or mood to market to you.
- Kokochi is a diary, not medical advice and not a treatment.
Where it lives
Account, sync and recognition run on our backend (api.kokochi.app). Food composition uses USDA FNDDS, Open Food Facts, Wikidata and a curated set, with attribution in the app (Profile → Data sources).
Keeping it, deleting it
Synced diary data stays while the account exists. In the app: Profile → Delete account. That erases the account and what was synced to the server. Entries that exist only on the device stay on the device. A Kokochi Plus subscription is billed by Apple — deleting the account does not cancel it; manage that in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Questions or a deletion request by email: [email protected].
Children
Kokochi is not directed at children. Age rating in the App Store follows Apple’s questionnaire. Do not create an account for a child using someone else’s Apple ID in a way that shares their health diary without care.
Changes
We will update this page if collection or purpose changes. The date at the top is the current version.
